The Divorce Playbook: Financial Planning

Divorce planning

You need to make a game plan for your divorce.

Divorce planning is like coaching a sports team.  Without a playbook, you’re sure to struggle.  When a client walks into my office, they are looking to me as their coach, the person who will provide a game plan, and support them all the way to the final buzzer and beyond.

Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing three strategic plans for success.  Take time to implement these divorce planning strategies, and you will be on top of the game if you decide to file for divorce.

Divorce Planning Strategy Number 1:  “Admitting What You Don’t Know”

Often times one spouse has taken care of the finances and the other is left in the dark.  A good CDFA will help you shed light on the matter, and help bring you up to speed with your investment accounts, retirement plans, bank accounts, and all the assets pertaining to your marriage.  Without the knowledge of knowing what you have, how do you know what you will be getting in your divorce?

This week, take the time to learn about your household finances.  Under “Resources” on our website, you will have a worksheet entitled, “Charting Assets”.  Make a copy and get started. Let us know how things are going, and feel free to ask us if you need help.

Don’t forget to come back next week ready to move on to the next game plan.
